Spartan Race presents: Monterey 10K Super, 5K Sprint, Trail 50K, 1/2 Marathon and 10K

Located only six miles from downtown Salinas near the town of Monterey, the park is a vast, sprawling venue covering almost 5,000 acres. With punishing hills, fields and prairies as well as many picturesque wooded areas, it’s easy to understand why this venue is a favorite amongst Spartans. With miles of different trail routes, the race directors will be sure to take full advantage of variety and unleash a hailstorm of twists and turns. The magnificent views from on top of the many peaks are worthy of a quick rest to appreciate the stunning sight of the outlying Northern California. The weather can be deceptively warm without humidity, so remember to hydrate well for the dry and dusty peaks. Be sure to look out for the local wildlife as the park is teeming with critters watching you sprint to the next hill. TOP REASONS TO TAKE ON THIS COURSE: 1. Monterey and Salinas are both within short driving distance so Spartans have the choice of where to entertain themselves with some wonderful sights and sounds. There’s also a nice selection of restaurants to carb-up before the race, or celebrate afterwards. 2. For the motorsport enthusiast, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is a must. Located less than seven miles away, why not visit this famous race track once you have completed your race? 3. Cannery Row, the historic waterfront district, is a popular destination for shoppers, diners and visitors of Monterey. 4. The Monterey County Fair and Event Center is a great place to catch some entertainment. With a fair or event happening almost all the time, it’s definitely worth checking their website for things to do. 5. If you want to hit the beach, Monterey State beach is your destination for rest and relaxation. Miles of sand make up the beautiful coastline. Take it all in. 6. Downtown Monterey is a bustling metropolis of live music, bars, restaurants and other things to do. Once you’ve conquered the race, celebrate in style with fellow racers into the night.

The Spartan Sprint: Spartan Sprint is a 5 km, 20 obstacle race that will change your life. This is their signature race type, a fast-paced adventure through rugged terrain built for new and returning racers alike. It’s the perfect gateway into the world of Spartan. The Sprint is a Spartan Trifecta eligible event.

The Spartan Super: Spartan Super is a 10 km, 25 obstacle race that blends speed, endurance and technical skill. Supers are built to always keep you guessing, testing your athleticism and mental fortitude over rugged terrain. This race separates athletes from Spartans. The Super is a Spartan Trifecta eligible event.

Kids Race: Spartan Kids is a series of obstacle course races — ranging from 800m to 3.2km — specifically designed to get your kids (ages 4-14) outside, feeling accomplished and having fun. They’ll run, jump and crush their way through obstacles, just like the adults.

The Spartan Trail Race: Spartan Trail is a zero-obstacle trail race with distances of 10k, 10k Night Run, Half Marathon and 50k. Our races are held in some of the most picturesque, natural environments around the US and the world. Choose your goal, begin your Road to Ultra or continue your journey through the trail running world with Spartan Trail and the Spartan Trail World Championship!

There’s no dress code, but you’ll be running through trails, mud & water while climbing over walls, underneath nets and ropes. So, dress comfortably.

Our elites recommend: performance gear (NOT COTTON), compression underwear, high socks & long sleeves.

Advice from experience: is to race in what you train in – new shoes on race day are NOT recommended.
