Mission of the Gasparilla Distance Classic Association, Inc.
The Gasparilla Distance Classic Association, established in 1978, is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated specifically to raising funds for charitable youth organizations and running programs in the Tampa Bay area. It’s mission is carried out through the administration of the annual Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend and Jr. Gasparilla Distance Classic. $3.2 Million Donated To Date!
The Gasparilla Distance Classic Association takes great pride in its mission. Since the first running of the Gasparilla Distance Classic in February, 1978, $2.8 million has been donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa, Girls Inc. of Pinellas, The Friends of Tampa Parks & Recreation and other running programs. Thank you to the City of Tampa, Publix Super Markets and Nike, our event sponsors, volunteers and every one of the 485,000+ runners and walkers that have crossed the Finish Line!
2018 PGDC Online Registration Is Open!
Beginning May 1, 2017, registration will be available online for the 2018 Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K & 5K, 2018 Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon & 8K, Michelob Ultra Challenge, 2018 Michelob Ultra Amber Challenge and 2018 Michelob Ultra Lime Cactus Challenge.
PLEASE NOTE that there are registration caps for each of the 2018 Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend Events. If any of the individual 15K, 5K, Half Marathon, 8K or Challenge Registration Caps are reached, registration WILL close for that event. The 2018 Registration Caps are as follows:
- 15K – 6,500
- 5K – 14,000
- Half Marathon – 6,500
- 8K – 5,500
- Michelob Ultra Challenge – 1,200
- Michelob Ultra Amber Challenge – 500
- Michelob Ultra Lime Cactus Challenge – 800
ATTENTION WALKERS! Though the 5K is the only PGDC Race Weekend event that offers a dedicated walk, the Kashi 5K Walk, Walkers are welcome in all PGDC Race Weekend Events. Because of road closure permits, a 16-minute per mile pace must be maintained. For event specific Walker Information, please visit the 15K, 5K, Half Marathon & 8K Runner Info pages.
In 2018, for safety and the enjoyment of all, A Walker Corral will be offered in the 15K, Half Marathon & 8K. If you are a Walker, please let us know! When registering Online or By Mail, Walkers will be given the opportunity to select ‘YES, I Am A Walker!’
If you register by mail or online, you MUST pick up your T-shirt and packet during the 8 On Your Side Health & Fitness Expo being held at the Tampa Convention Center – East Hall on Friday, February 23, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., and on Saturday, February 24, 6 a.m. – 5 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are not able to attend the Expo and pick-up your Race Number, a Race Number Pick-Up Authorization Form must be completed, signed and presented by whomever WILL be picking up for you. A downloadable version of the Authorization Form can be found below.
2018 Rules and Requirements
Online Registration Waiver must be digitally signed – the waiver can be found at the bottom of the first online registration page (if participant is under 18 years old, parent or guardian must sign the release). Age Requirements:
- Half-Marathon: At least 12 years old (18 yrs & Under Require a Parental or Guardian Signature)
- 15K: No age restrictions
- 8K: No age restrictions
- 5K: No age restrictions
Race Numbers and ChronoTrack B-Tags are required for all races. Refunds and/or transfers of registration are not allowed in the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K & 5K, Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon & 8K, Michelob Ultra Challenge, Michelob Ultra Amber Challenge and/or Michelob Ultra Lime Cactus Challenge. If you are unable to run the race you registered for due to medical reasons, you may downgrade to a shorter distance. There is no charge for downgrading, however, you will not receive a refund for the difference in entry fee. If you require a race change, you MUST contact the race office in writing via email by Friday, February 16, 2018.
If the request and change are made prior to Sunday, January 21, 2018, the change will be made at No Charge. From January 22 – February 16, there will be a $15 fee for making a change in registration. There will be NO changes made over Race Weekend. If you participate in a race you are NOT registered for, you will NOT be eligible for overall and age group awards. If you need to make a change in your registration, please submit a request to the GDCA office via email: [email protected]. Race registration changes will not be made over the phone.
PLEASE NOTE: From January 22 – February 16, there will be a $15 fee for making a change in registration. There will be NO changes made over Race Weekend.
